3604.0. "no login box, today, hardware failure?" by HPSRAD::KOMAR (Paul Komar) Wed Nov 07 1990 15:09
There is a VAXstation 3100 8pln system in my group which can't
seem to get decwindows going enough to put the login box on the
screen. This happens with both Ultrix V4.0 and VMS V5.3-2. I
suspect that there is a hardware problem, although both the mono
and 8pln components pass self-test. While we wait for FS to
arrive, I'll report what I've seen.
Under VMS, with which I am more familiar:
The DECW$SERVER_0 and the _WSA1: processes both settle down until they
exist in LEF.
When I execute @decw$startup restart, the system bugchecks.
Here's a portion of the error log:
INVEXCEPTN, Exception while above ASTDEL or on interrupt stack
PROCESS NAME DECW$SERVE
PROCESS ID 00010019
ERROR PC 8011D232
ERROR PSL 00140009
Has anyone seen this?
Must I qar the bugcheck? (I don't have anymore information, and our
LAVC system disk doesn't seem to have enough space to make a large
enough dump file. And I don't have anymore time to diagnose this)
What do you say?
-pk.
