3592.0. "Insufficient dynamic memory" by COMICS::FISCHER (I've got a special purpose) Tue Nov 06 1990 04:18
I have a customer having strange problems with Fileview.
He has a VAXstation 3100 running VMS v5.3-1 and
DECwindows. He runs Fileview locally, but runs another
from a 6440 Client displaying on his 3100.
Everything seems to be going OK. He can create applications,
etc, but occasionally when he chooses any option from the
menu bar, Fileview crashes. This happens on either Fileview
and when one goes, the other will follow if he selects something
from that menu bar.
In order to trap the error, he ran VUE$MASTER from DCL. The
error returned was...
%XLIB-E-INSFMEM, Insufficient dynamic memory, cannot perform
Malloc.
I've checked CTLPAGES, PAGEDYN, VIRTUALPAGECNT and also
checked the file DECW$DWTLIBSHR as suggested in a previous
note. Everything looks OK.
I've got a copy of his DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG which
contains a series of %SYSTEM-F-INTDIV, arithmetic trap, integer
divide by zero.
I can post the whole file here, but before I type it all in, has anyone
any ideas why the customer may be getting this problem, and whether
it's at the client or the server end.
Thanks for any help

3592.1 | Probably a problem at the client end | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Wed Nov 07 1990 11:07 | 10 |
| If your VUE$MASTER is getting %XLIB-E-INSFMEM, then the problem is
most likely at the client end. The %SYSTEM-F-INTDIV on the server
end is probably an unrelated problem.
Does the user in fact have enough virtual memory?
If you have the server error log on-line, the best thing to do
would be to enter it in a QAR. Use the include feature of the
editor to pull the file across the net, so you don't have to
type it all in.
