3574.0. "SPX Server loops at PC 132888" by YZR500::OMELEY (Mirth and fun growing fast and furious...) Fri Nov 02 1990 00:28
Hi,
a customer has reported the following problem on a SPX VS3100/38. I
have looked through this conference, however it appears to be new.
Env:
VS3100/38 SPX. VRT19, 16Mb memory, 2xRZ23's VMS V5.3-2 Application
Program: G2 (from Gensym, Bostom MA). This creates a single DECWindows
Window (I have no details on how this is done) on the screen then
formats that into it's own seperate "windows" (henceforth referred to
as "G2 windows" or a "G2 window") that the application manipulates.
Problem:
During redraws of a G2 window (due to it being occluded by another G2
window) the DECW$Server_0 process will enter a loop and hang the
system. The customer is running the latest server patch for the SPX
(addresses the quit problems) from VOID, and it _not_ using the print
screen function. The problem is intermittent but they are seeing it
quite often (ie: sometimes a redraw of a G2 window will work Ok other
times it causes the servver process to loop).
From a show proc/cont on the process the following info was gathered:
PC 00132888 apparently there was little deviation from this
PC when displayed... so it must be a reasonably tight
loop
PSL 03C00009
SP 7FF89F20
Memory seems Ok, no expansions in Pool
Main Mem: Total: 32768 Free: 523 In Use: 31637
Mod: 608
NPAGDYN: 482304
PAGEDYN: 565760
Pagefile: 30,000 primary, 100,000 secondary
Swapfile 10,000
Has anyone come across a similar loop problem ? Is the PC in a module
associated with screen output ?
Many Thank's for any help
Rob

3574.3 | The patch had no effect | PDV01::DEQUAL | | Thu Nov 08 1990 06:21 | 17 |
| Hi,
I have the same problem of a loop of DECW$SERVER_0 on a VAXstation
3100/SPX VMS 5.3-1 running the CAD package EAGLE.
I installed the patch DECWSERVER$PATCH04_053 but the problem still
remain.
The situation is very critical with the customer and I need a very
urgent help.
Did such patch resolve the problem in your site?
Please let me known as soon as possible. Thank you.
