3573.0. "SERVER Crashes after XSetFontPath" by RICKS::AKHIANI () Thu Nov 01 1990 19:08
Long time ago I wrote a program that install fonts on my server.
all it does is a call to:
XGetFontPath
to get current Font path and then add a new path to it and then:
XSetFontPath
It does a good job,(you don't have to ask the system manager to
install fonts for you).
However, there is a side effect.
As long as you use the Session Manager Session-->Pause option
everything is fine, but if you quit the SERVER crashes.
CRASH DESCRIPTION:
After I do Session Manager Session-->Quit screen freezes and If I
touch any key screen blanks and the workstation screen look like a
terminal. and DECW$SERVER_0 process that should be running is not
present when I do $SHOW SYS
I have a VS3100/SPX, VMS 5.3 and no idea how to get the version of
DecWindows. This problem is reproducable and it also happens on
MICROVAX II/GPX.
This program runs in the user mode and crashes the server. This is
serious Bug since User Mode programs should not be able to crash a machine.
I can post my program and the complete Server Log if somebody wants it.

This is top and bottom of the servers log file:

| All obvious bugs like server crashes should be QARed. See note 2
for information on how to enter a QAR. Please supply the program
source and the complete server log.
By the way, if the server crashed, there should have been a stack
dump at the end of the server log. Did the log really end with no
stack dump?
