3571.0. "DECwindows course ideas?" by BOSTRN::WISE () Thu Nov 01 1990 17:31

    I currently teach DECwindows Programming I and II to internal software
    people. I am interested in finding out what additional courses people
    might be interested in taking.

    Some of my thoughts were:

    1. Using Display Postscript in the DECwindows/Motif programming
    environment. A 4 or 5-day hands on programming course.

    2. Using the "other" widgets: VLIST, VHIST, SVN, GOBE, etc. This could
    also be a 4 or 5-day programming course.

    I'd appreciate any other suggestions or an informal show of interest
    either here or in mail to me.

    Thanks,

    Peter

    If it's not already part of your course, something on subclassing Motif
    widgets would be nice. There are lots of tricks to this that don't
    seem to be documented anywhere.

    Display PostScript is a good idea. PEX would be, too.

Peter,

    I would strongly recomend a one week 'using / developing widgets'
class. I currently work within a UI services group supporting the
COMPASS program. A lot of folks are unaware of the widgets available
and how to incorporate them quickly. Also the area of widget creation
is covered only briefly at the end of the DECwindows programming II
course and can be very confusing at first. I would suggest that you
may want to consider starting such a course with an overview of VUIT
to aid developers... Just some thoughts. If I can help in anyway, please
let me know.

                                    Thanks,

                                    -Mark
