3539.0. "Window Manager Acces Violation" by DURDUR::BROUSTE (Jean-Pierre BROUSTE) Fri Oct 26 1990 15:36

Hello everybody !!!!

We have a customer which has in his trading room 250 VS 3100/M30 with 16 Mb
running VMS 5.3-1.

On every WS, they run an application which displays financial pages from Reuters.
They can have up to 15 windows of this type plus 7 or 8 other windows.

When they run the program, the 15 windows appear simultaneously, and, from time
to time, the window manager falls with the following message :

%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=01, virtual address=00480036, PC=0011BC78, PSL=03C00000

Improperly handled condition, image exit forced.

Congratulations on getting 250 workstations into your customer's
    trading room.

I can't answer your question, but I say a few things about methodolgy
and practical ways to get answers.

It's important to know what interactions your applications have with
the window manager. For example, are they trying to modify the title
once per second, indicating the time, on 20 windows? The window
manager might have a problem with that.

It's important to save log files and other data that might be useful to
    the maintainer.

Finally, before the flames start, you have to use your management-based
problem elevation procedures to get a committed response for your
    customer.

And even if this isn't a customer satisfaction problem, the QAR system
is the system for reporting such problems. VAX Notes conferences are
informal communications. Although not likely, literally _everyone_ is
free to ignore any problem entered here.
