I just noticed a problem/nondesirable "feature" for my DECwindows help text under ULTRIX compared with VMS. Under ULTRIX, the help text is displayed with an extra line between paragraphs and between list elements. In other words, two lines between paragraphs and list elements instead of one. The help text didn't use to look like this, but I don't know when or why it changed. I just checked the DECterm (dxterm) help text under VMS and ULTRIX and it has the same problem, so it's not just my application. We recently installed ULTRIX 4.0, with its associated UWS. Could this be causing the problem? Is this a known "feature" with DECwindows help text under ULTRIX? I posted this in the CLT::HELP-WIDGET notes file but haven't received a response. Vicki Meagher

Could it be a problem with wrap? Try resizing the window to increase its width and see if the problem persists... steve

I've noticed double blank line between paragraphs with the Ultrix Motif help widget, too. No, resizing doesn't help. Ken

3524.4 | Problem is '\n' ONLY lines. Fix in progress | R2ME2::REICHERT | Mon Oct 29 1990 10:08 | 17
<<< CLT::DISK$CLT_LIBRARY3:[NOTES$LIBRARY]HELP-WIDGET.NOTE;1 >>> -< DECwindows HELP Widget >- ================================================================================ Note 140.1 Extra line space for ULTRIX DECwindows help. 1 of 1 R2ME2::REICHERT 10 lines 29-OCT-1990 10:03 -< The problem is '\n' lines -- fix in progress. >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've looked into this and the culprit seems to be 'empty' lines, i.e., lines that consist of ONLY '\n'. I'm working on a fix. If you can't wait for a fix, replace your '\n' by ' \n'. A line with even a single blank character upspaces correctly. Thanks for pointing out this problem, Rich |
