I have a questions on the PAINT utiltiy. Can I bring in a DDIF format image? I want to use Digital's image software and scan in a document and then bring up the image file in PAINT. Does PAINT work with a Digitialize pad and PEN? I now want to anotate the document, not change but add on top of the image. Sounds like DECwrite doesn't it but I donot want all the functionality of a desktop publishing tool. The hardware would be a VAXstation 3100 with a PAD and PEN. The application in a nutshell is. A student taking a course by correspondence and is also attending a school. Would then fil out the course material, scan in the completed questions. At a later date the teacher would then bring in the image using paint and correct the question. The student would then print out the correct questions.

1. Yes, Paint can read scanned DDIF files. 2. You can annotate the document, but you cannot keep the annotation separate (I don't think DECwrite can do that either). There is no reason that a digitizing pad and pen won't work. But when Paint writes the image, it will be at the screen resolution, rather than the scanned resolution. An alternative (to #2) would be to use DECimage Services and write a paint-like application with the features you require, this application could include the scanning too. I hope this helps. >>> There is no reason that a digitizing pad and pen won't work. Execpt that there is not support in the X protocol for using a digitizing pad as anything other than a substitute mouse/locator. There is no support for the digitizing pad such that the pointer is constrained to a given window and the motions on the pad are scaled to the coordinate space represented in the window. This capability was left out of the original X protocol design and has only recently been described as a protocol extension. Someday maybe we'll have something other than a dead rodent to drag around... James | |||||

I have one more question regrading paint. What if the document is more than one page long? Will PAINT see the second page(s) ? |
