3500.0. "Problems after VMS upgrade" by MUDIS3::JONES (Selling Wales by the quid) Mon Oct 22 1990 09:35

Hi everyone,

I've just been phoned by a software house who've upgraded their VAXstations from
VMS V5.2 to VMS V5.3 on the weekend and their application software doesn't work
properly anymore. They say that the 75 dpi terminal fonts (which used to include
ASCII characters and special graphics character set) now only include ASCII
characters. This is rather unfortunate as they'd been using the special graphics
character set all through their programs. What do they do now? Any tips would be
deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

3500.1some font encodings changed in DECwindows V2GOBBLR::MULHERENKelly Mulheren, Digital Extended ToolkitMon Oct 22 1990 10:4613
Mitch,

When I installed DECwindows V2, I had what is probably a similar problem.
I don't remember the particular fonts, though. The response to my QAR was
that between DECwindows V1 and V2 the encoding of some fonts was changed.
There was some justification in the response but it was over my head since
I don't speak font-ese very well :-)

I'll bet those special graphics glyphs are still there, just at a different
location (index) in the font. Several notes in this notesfile describe various
tools that let you examine the glyphs in a font.

Re: .0

In DECwindows V2 the special graphics characters moved from positions 1-32
in the ISO8859-1 fonts to positions 33-126 in the DEC-DECtech fonts. This
was to make the fonts conform to font standards.
