Hi, I have a customer who is having trouble with on a Firefox with 8 planes. He claims that some of the color indecies returned from XAllocNamedColor are rubbish. Does anybody know if the default visual for the 8 plane system is pseudo or true color, and are all colors in the X family supported as if it was a standard VS3100. Thanks Mel

If the HARDWARE has only 8 planes, the default visual is PseudoColor. If the hardware has 24 planes, the default visual is TrueColor. However, you can still get 8-plane pseudo...it is just not the default. If by garbage, the customer means that the indices are way out of range, that is odd. I don't understand it. However, if the customer means that, say, Loden- green is not really that color, I believe that. Unfortunately, no one has ever standardized anything about these colors, least of all what they should look like. Theoretically, we should use a different set of definitions for each type of hardware, but since there is no real standard to compare against, we don't. They can be changed by defining logicals: see sys$manager:DECW$RGB.COM. Burns | |||||

Ok, so we have our box of Crayola Crayons, now what color of light is over our playpen, how bright is it, and what color of paper are we drawing on... James Oh yeah, "Are we colorblind?" |
