3486.0. "dxterm is not owner of /dev/ttyp*" by WPOPTH::ZAMBOTTI (It only works after you ask!) Thu Oct 18 1990 05:43

Hi,

I have just installed a new updated version of dxterm form node guru:: (where
all the patches live).

And now when ever a non-roor user starts a decterm window this error is
displayed in the window when it starts up :

/dev/ttyp2: Not owner
Thu Oct 18 16:16:49 GMT-0800 1990
module>

from then on things are all ok (so far), but I would like to get rid of this
error before delivering decstation to customer.

Using ds2100 ULTRIX 4.0 with mandatory upgrade and latest dxterm from guru::.

My /dev/tty* look like this :

Did you check that your new dxterm is setuid root?

-rwsr-xr-x 4 root 4423920 May 24 01:44 /usr/bin/dxterm

module> ls -l /usr/bin/dxterm
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 4572456 Aug 3 07:47 /usr/bin/dxterm

The above is output from my system. Looks OK to me?

Anything I should check ?

Do a chmod u+s /usr/bin/dxterm. It should be setuid root.
