I have a customer who has written an X application (no toolkit routines) running on VMS 5.3/DECwindows 2.0. In his application he is using a message window to display information to the user. This window is mapped and unmapped as needed. The problem is that the window gets bigger and bigger as the window is mapped/unmapped. The customer claims he has run the same application on a Sun workstation, and it works OK there. Is this a bug in our X-server? If it is, is there a way to get around it?

It's a known bug, supposedly fixed for "DECwindows V3". Steve

If this is the same bug, it is a bug in the XUI window manager, that causes the window to grow by one pixel each time. There's a workaround - get the window height, subtract 1, set the new window height. I don't think the problem is "fixed", but it doesn't exist in the Motif window manager, which will be the default with DECwindows V3.

Hmm - I just checked the QAR I entered (DECWINDOWS-IFT #3542) and it doesn't say that it would be fixed, but I remember seeing that elsewhere. Oh well. Steve |
