3412.0. "My window manager went to bed" by HKOVC::TERENCE (From Middlesex, UWO) Mon Oct 01 1990 00:20

After upgrading my VAXstation II GPX from VMS 5.2 to VMS 5.3-1, its
    DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG shows the following message

%DECW-I-ATTACHED, transport DECNET attached to its network
%DECW-W-ATT_FAIL, failed to attach transport LAT
-SYSTEM-F-PRIVINSTALL, shareable images must be installed to run privileged imag
e

Could somebody explain that. Any fix?

That workstation is also experiencing a strange problem right now. The
    problem is

SOMETIMES, the window manager (or is it the server?) goes to sleep.
No body takes care of my pointer events. I can still move my mouse
pointer, but I cannot use it to move, resize, popup, and iconize
windows. But whatever window that has the input focus still has it.

The only fix that I can think of right now is to restart DECwindows,
        anybody has a better one?

    Thanx in advance

The error message you report from the log has no relevance to your
problem. It is really not an error at all except that it shouldn't
have tried to "attach transport LAT". The problem is elsewhere.

re: Window manager crashing...

I've experienced on some of our workstations too..

To fix it:

I set host to the workstation, stop all the DECWINDOW processes,
and restart DECWINDOWS by submitting DECW$STARTUP.COM to a local
batch queue.

You can also restart just the session manager the same way...
