Has anyone been able to get MACX to work with Ultrix 4.0. ??? Scenario --------- Customer is using MACX ( supplied by Apple ) as a display server for a DECstation 5000 running Ultrix 4.0. When he tries to use MACX to open a dxterm from the DS5000 it will work only from root. The command which is being sent from the MAC is basically rsh /usr/bin/dxterm -d DISPLAY Looking at the syslog entry indicates that the error is a protection problem error message says Cant set GID not owner. The MACX then hangs up waiting for a reponse from the DS5000. This works with Ultrix 3.1 and also works between 2 DECstations. IT seems to me taht their may be a problem with rexecd on 4.0 . Does anyone have any ideas. Paul

ULTRIX 4.0 has 'enhanced security' that could be a pain in the arse at times. 'Enhanced' security can be disabled. Also..check the setuid info on the MACX stuff. I don't have a real answer but I suggest reading the release notes and portions on security more carefully. good luck, Kris... |
