SUBJECT: Wrecking Crew Team Nomination for DECwindows V3
DECWindows V3 will be having a wrecking crew test for a few weeks
prior to the start of internal field test to help find problems with
the software in a short period of time. The goal of a wrecking crew
is to enlist a small number of people to try to "wreck" (find as
many problems as possible) the product in a very short time span.
DECwindows V3 incorporates OSF/MOTIF V1.1 into DECwindows.
XUI applications will continue to run unchanged. Most of
the bundled DECwindows have been converted to MOTIF and
the MOTIF window manager is started by default under DECwindows V3.
DECwindows V3 also incorporates the MEMEX HyperInformation technology.
The DECwindows applications MAIL, CARDFILER, BOOKREADER, and CALENDAR
have added MEMEX support. DECwindows V3 moves from MIT R3 to MIT R4
compliance for the X11 Window system. The X11 server includes
windowing performance optimizations, backing store support, and
reduced memory usage.
The DECwindows V3 wrecking crew team is currently being
selected. There are 20 slots available for wrecking crew sites.
If there is an interest level greater than number of slots available
team members will be selected based on responses to the attached
questionnaire.
If you know of someone else interested in participating, please feel
free to forward this questionnaire to them.
The key to Wrecking Crew program success is a dedicated team of
crew members willing to communicate with each other and with the
wrecking crew manager. This project requires a good deal of
commitment from each participant. As a result, candidates should
be nominated by and have the support of their line managers. We
ask you to provide the information requested below in an effort
to identify the best possible wrecking crew system users.
The candidate and manager should understand that this software
requires the system to be running V5.4 and that DECwindows V3
is pre-field test quality and may involve some down time and/or
incompatibilities with other software.
The return of this form from the manager's VAXmail account indicates
that both candidate and manager commit to supporting the wrecking
crew effort. Please complete the attached form for each nominee
and return to DECWIN::BMATTHEWS as soon as possible.

and completeness?
7) Why are you requesting wrecking crew participation?
8) What hardware configuration(s) will the candidate be testing?
