3352.0. "FONTS/Fonts name associated wanted!" by TLSE01::SCHLUMBERGER (Marc SCHLUMBERGER, WS-VMS-Ultrix Conslt) Tue Sep 18 1990 09:35

    Let me know if there are demos showing ALL the *.DECW$FONTS and
    giving the Adobe-courrier-... notations to use in a program we are
    developping.

    Its urgent.

    I remember an Xdemo or MOTIF demo which present all the avaible
    fonts loaded and its corresponding notation.

    Thanks for yours answers.

xlsfonts does this. if you have access to an ULTRIX machine, configure your VMS
workstation's security to allow access from the ULTRIX machine, and type

xlsfonts -display VMS::0.0

to see what fonts are available on the VMS workstation.

if you don't have access to an ULTRIX machine, look in the DECwindows examples
Notes conference (ELKTRA::DW_EXAMPLES) to see if anyone has ported xlsfonts
to run on VMS.

    Thanks for your answer. It gives us the exact list of the avaible
    fonts.

    Now I will be happy if I could chose a font name watching on the
    screen the result to choose the best font to answer my initial request
    which is
    " Which font do I have to chose to see more than 100 characters
    in a listbox ?"

    I will have a look in the examples notesfile.

    Thanks.

This contains a program I hacked together for selecting fonts. It ain't pretty
but it's functional. Several products have found it quite useful.

You can grab a VMS executable (linked against DECwindows V2) from:

	dfs:	zko.s.clt.kits_1:[widget.misc]gobe-list-fonts.exe
	fal:	clt::widget$misc:gobe-list-fonts.exe

The source code is there also; look at the program header for instructions
on running it.

Note 3190 tells you where to get the clients: from DECUS.

I'm fairly certain that somewhere else there is a note that tells you where to
find it on line, but I'll repeat it.

You can find two utilities related to fonts, xlsfonts and xfd from
CVG::SYS$GAMES:[ATHENA_X11.X.CLIENTS.XLSFONTS]XLSFONTS.EXE and
CVG::SYS$GAMES:[ATHENA_X11.X.CLIENTS.XFD]XFD.EXE

You will find most of the other Athena clients in
	CVG::SYS$GAMES:[ATHENA_X11.X.CLIENTS.*]

This is a much earlier version of what's on the DECUS CDROM.

	A really cheap way of checking out the fonts is to use NOTEPAD. It
	allows you to select from a variety of fonts....
