3306.0. "Display Postscript viewer for UWS" by ORAN::ORAN (Dave Oran) Wed Sep 05 1990 14:55

I'm running Ultrix 4.0 with UWS 2.2, which supposedly has
display postscript support.

I have two questions:

1) What is the name of the postscript previewer that uses DPS? The
dxpsview on my machine appears to use the old brute force interpreter.

2) Isn't there supposed to be a CDA viewer that will use DPS? My dxvdoc
   doesn't understand postscript.

Thanks.

    1. The UWS2.2 dxpsview does use the DPS extension. Try doing a strings on
the binary and grep'ing for DPS.

    2. I don't think the DPS version of the CDA viewer has been released yet.

3306.2Hmmm...I had thought the output might be a little prettier then...ORAN::ORANDave OranFri Sep 07 1990 15:4413
I have therefore two questions:

1) is there any way to get dxpsview to scale up the output using the UI,
or do I have to hack the postscript file itself. Is this featue missing
or am I missing something in the UI?

2) I'm by no means a Unix wizard, so perhaps I'm missing something, but
I could not get dxpsview to work as the tail end of a filter. It
doesn't want to read its input from stdin. For example, I could not
   get the following to work:
       show -noheader 129 | dxpsview

   Any ideas?

    1) The sheet selection option (on the options menu) allows you to scale
    and rotate documents.

    2) I don't think filtering is possible. dxpsview requires random
access to the file for skipping forward and backwards, etc.

Re .3 (2): it should require that only when you actually use those features.

Note that Dave is running standard UWS 4.0, not UWS 2.2.
