3293.0. "Decwindow and Icons malfunction" by DPDMAI::BARR () Fri Aug 31 1990 17:49
I have a problem with my VAX3100 model 48. When I log in,
I can only use the DECterm window which sits on top of the rest,
I have no control (the mouse doesn't pick up the icons) or any
part of the other windows at all.
For example, I have two Decterms activated at my autostart,
I can use DCL commands in the DECterm, but I can't pick any icon to
activate other windows. If I log off from the DECterm, the one
under it becomes accessable, however, if the window is
a notepad, I can't click any of the icons in the notepad, and I
stuck. To get out, I have to reboot my system.
It has been working fine before I tried to capture screen
using the 'print screen' function in the session manager last night.
The conclusion is that i have no control of the windows and icons,
I think the problem is related to the memory. However, I peeked and
it still has about 10,000 free memory not used. The non-page dynamic
memory still has about 10,000 also (kind of low).
I am stuck, please help!!!! (please send your reply
to my note DLOSWS::BARR also, thanks)

You have lost your window manager process. Try this:
$spawn/nowait/input=nl run sys$system:decw$winmgr.exe
