3260.1 | Need more information | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Mon Aug 27 1990 12:33 | 8 |
| Do you really mean the window manager crashed or that the server crashed?
(I'm starting to get really suspicious that people are referring to the
server as the "window manager".) Do the borders of your windows disappear
as well as the icon box (this means the window manager crashed), or does
the entire display stop, and you have to reboot to get things back (this
means the server crashed)?
Please post the contents of SYS$MANAGER:DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG.

3260.2 | I have a similar software environment, and I can't reproduce your problem ... | JAC::COFFLER | Have you hugged your dog today? | Mon Aug 27 1990 15:20 | 10 |
| Are you sure everything is installed correctly? I seem to recall a message
during the DECwrite installation that certain VMS components are replaced, and
that if you upgrade VMS, you must reinstall DECwrite (I'm not sure if that's
only for specific versions or all the time).
I just did a base VMS V5.4 installation (not an upgrade), and then installed
DECwrite (along with tons of other products), and I'm not experiencing any
problems at all ...

3260.3 | VMS 5.4 and DECwrite 1.1 is OK | GVA01::GVA01::BRANDT | Lee BRANDT | Tue Aug 28 1990 06:45 | 29 |

I'm sure it's the windows manager. The icon box disapears, all windows
are de-iconified... so I restarted the image SYS$SYSTEM:DECW$WINMGR and
every thing is back to normal.
R:.2
Jeff, the system is freshly installed (VMS5.4 and then DECwrite 1.0) in
fact during the IVP the same thing happened (so it failed). If you want
to reproduce the problem, *created* a new DECwrite document ( do not
edit an old one) and then quit.
Analyzing the windows manager gives:
Image Identification Information
image name: "DECW$WINMGR"
image file identification: "DECWINDOWS V5.4"
link date/time: 26-MAY-1990 11:20:16.12
linker identification: "05-05"
FYI, we've installed DECwrite V1.1 SSB and this solved it.
Thanks,
Lee.

This only applies V1.0 of DECwrite and systems running versions of VMS
earlier than 5.2-1. In that case, you needed to reinstal DECwrite to
replace some CDA bits.
re. * Other users in the DECwrite conference reported crashes using
Quit, Exit, and Close Document under certain FT's of 5.4. When they
upgraded to more recent FT versions, the problems went away. I'm
running 4G1 and can't reproduce this one.

3260.6 | No problem for me | NECSC::LEVY | Nothin's gonna bring him back | Fri Sep 21 1990 16:51 | 5 |
| I'm running DECwrite V1.0 and VMS V5.4 - SSB version.
Perhaps you need to upgrade to VMS V5.4 SSB?
