3236.0. "How to iconify windows by program ?" by 55491::SCHMIDT () Tue Aug 21 1990 10:57

Is there a possibility to run a program which is started automatically
inconified? I liked to create some images with DECimage and liked to
have them iconified after having created. If they are needed they can
    be deiconified by the customer.

Is there any escape sequence to iconify these windows?
Have i to write a program, which sends an iconify event to these
    widgets?

    thanks for any help

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for. It is possible for a
program to start up with its windows iconified. Some programs provide
a user option for this. It is also possible for the window manager to
iconify a program's windows and for a another program (if it has the
window identifiers) to iconify a program's windows.

    My problem is the following:

when i start DECimage, the image is shown on the screen. You can
iconify this image. I don't think, that there is a customization file
for DECimage to say, that i want the image been iconified when DECimage
is started. So i am looking for a possibility to tell DECimage that it
should iconify the image. I do not want the customer to iconify the
How can i tell the window manager to start a program like DECimage with
    its window iconified?

    Thanks for any help

The twm window manager allows you to specify that an application start
up iconified. I don't think you can do that with the DEC window
manager. Your best bet would be to see if the application has an
option to start up iconified. Many do, usually with a resource named
startup_state or iconic.

RE: .3

The DECwindows window manager, at least on VMS, lets applications start
iconified. If the application uses the DECwindows Toolkit, then you need
merely put initialState: 3 in its resources.
