3202.0. "No screens found with VS3100/SPX??" by ECADJR::ALONGI () Mon Aug 13 1990 11:43
Hi,
I just got a VS3100/SPX and I am having trouble getting Decwindows to start
when I add it to my cluster.
The system has an RZ24 with 32 Meg of memory and a TK50 drive.
The system came with VMS5.3-1 already installed on it. When I boot
the system up standalone, Decwindows comes up no problem.
When I added it to my cluster (also running VMS5.3-1), my first error
was GEBDRIVER.EXE not found. I copied over the driver from the standalone
disk to fix that. Next, I noticed that when the system booted standalone,
the following message appeared on the screen
%DECW-I-RELOAD, reloading GEBDRIVER.EXE
and when I booted from the cluster I didn't get this message. I tracked down
the file that does this, DECW$DEVICE_GE.COM and copied it over from the
standalone system.
Now, I get the GEBDRIVER reloading, the decwindows process starts, and
everything looks normal but the windows never come up.
The process DECW$SERVER_0 only hangs around for a few minutes then it
goes away.
Here is the DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG
13-AUG-1990 08:49:25.8 Hello, this is the X server

Fatal server bug!
no screens found
At first I thought that the part about LAT was a problem so I manually
installed the images. I still got the same error, no screens found.
When I looked on the standalone system, those same LAT errors were there,
so it doesn't look like that is the problem.
Any suggestions???
Thanks

| SOunds like you really don't have V5.3-1 on your cluster. Re-apply
V5.3-1 and then boot the SPX into the cluster. It should work.

3202.2 | That worked | ECADJR::ALONGI | | Tue Aug 14 1990 09:22 | 5 |
| Hi,
That worked. I reupgraded to 5.3-1 and Decwindows came up fine.
Thanks
