3167.0. "Cannot see cursor on screen 1" by VNASWS::GEROLD (from the couch of Sigmund Freud) Fri Aug 03 1990 08:55

I successfully set up a dual headed workstation ( VAXstation 3100 ). The only
problem I have it that on screen 1 ( the b/w one ) I cannot see the cursor
although it is there as I can prove by guessing where the cursor is, clicking
on a window and I get the input focus.

I tried to set the cursor to b/w on the color screen ( screen 0 ), because
I thought color might be the problem, but mo avail.

Anybody any ideas where the problem might be ?

Thanks for your effort,

Can you see the cursor when you are logged out? If so, the problem is probably
with your cursor colors somehow. Make sure they contract in brightness as well
as in color.

It might be that you need to log in and back out before a customize color change
becomes effective on the 2nd screen. (Just guessing...I don't know).

No, I cannot see the cursor when I'm logged out ( the screen has the right
background, though ).

I logged out and in several times and rebooted the machine. Still no go.
I'm stumped.

Any other ideas ? Do you want to see the resource files ?

Why don't you try renaming the resource files to something else and restarting
DECwindows. If that works, there are clearly some colors wrong or something.
Otherwise, I am stumped.

Anyone else?

Burns,

Thanks for the idea. I tried it and no difference. I exchanged GCA0 and GAA0
as primary devices. Now everything started on GCA0 ( login screen and so on )
BUT NO CURSOR WAS VISIBLE. I'm really running out of ideas.

Below is the part of DECW$PRIVATE_SERVER_SETUP.COM concerning my workstation.
Probably somethings fishy there ?

Thanks for your time,

Gerold

You are connecting the qbus version of the monochrome driver. try
connect gca0/adap=0/csr=%X5000/vect=%o400/numv=01/driver=gcbdriver
instead.
