My customer had installed the VAX DECWindow software on her VMS V5.1 system when she upgraded her system to V5.1. But afterwards she found that this was meaningless to her since she does not have any VAXstation for the software to run on. She decided to remove the DECWindow software. I told her that there is no single step to de-install the software. But she really wants to save disk space and memory, she wants to know how she can do it manually and safely ? What are the necessary steps ? What files and installed objects can she removed ? Moreover, I remember I had read from somewhere that VMS V5.2 (I think) requires a portion of DECWindow to be installed even if the user does not need the software. I am not quite sure. Is it true ? How about VMS V5.1 ? Thanks for your attention. Regards, John Kwan / HKCSC

This was answered in VMSnotes also. (run sys$update:decw$tailor) I suppose that either this or the other conference is a reasonable place to post the question, but at least please indicate that this is being posted in more than one place at the same time. It is more preferred that you pick the most likely conference, then wait at least 24 hours, and if you get no response, repost in another conference. But indicate you are cross-posting. If you can't wait 24 hours (is anything that urgent?) then say so. --Simon P.S. I don't have the documentation handy, but surely this must be documented somewhere. At least, when I did the T5.4 upgrade, the upgrade procedure tells me about tailoring off DECwindows. | |||||

Thanks and sorry, Simon. I forgot to say I had posted somewhere else. I did so (cross-posting) because I don't want to see such reply like: "This is not the appropriate conference, pls post to ........." especially when I am not sure whether this is VMS problem or DECwindow problem. Anyway, thanks a lot. Regards, John Kwan / HKCSC |
