SUBJ:	PC DECwindows V3.0 - Base Level 2


We are pleased to announce the availability of Base Level 2 (beta
field test) of version 3.0 of PC DECwindows for DOS for internal
field test. PC DECwindows is an implementation of an X Window System,
version 11 server for DOS based PCs. This software will be a component
of DEC LanWORKS for DOS V4.0. The server supports X client applications
compiled and linked under both Ultrix and VMS DECwindows.

The server has many new features including improved performance and
memory use, 8514A high resolution 8 plane video support, TCP/IP support,
password encryption and unique keycodes for Industry Standard keyboards.
New functionality, removed functionality and known problems are listed
in the release notes.

To use TCP/IP as the transport you must be an official DEC LanWORKS
for DOS Internal Field Test site. To become an IFT site, please send a
very brief description of your systems and the applications you will
be running to PC DECwindows to Dennis Giokas (RANGER::GIOKAS).

Note that all file have been changed since version 2.0.

Details of the implementation and future product plans may not be
discussed with anyone outside the company.

Note: V2.1 has been renamed to V3.0. Also, the next client version of
PCSA will be V4.0. Also note that the name "PCSA" has been changed to
DEC LanWORKS for DOS.
