3079.0. "Accessing Screen 1 through Session Manager" by ANVIL::BUEHLER (Seat of the pants programming) Fri Jul 13 1990 14:17

I have a two head system. One head is 15" color, the other is 19" monochrome.
I can start application manually using the /SCREEN qualifier of the SET DISPLAY
command without any problems. Either head works fine (I'm running with both
heads acting as 75 dpi heads).

When attempting to use the Session Manager's "Screen Number" customization
option to direct applications to screen 1, I am always unsuccessful in getting
an application to appear on the second head (when started through the Session
Manager). They always appear on the first head. This is true whether I say
"prompt" or "screen 1" in the "Screen Number" customization stuff.

What, if anything, am I doing wrong?

It shoudl work in 5.3-1! I've used the dual-screen VAXstation support since
V5.3.

I've always told the session manager to prompt me for the screen number
(one of the buttons in the customize screen number box) so that may be why
mine always worked. We had a system at DECworld that has screen 1 as
the "default" and had no problem with V5.3-1.

V5.3-1 is the first official "supported" verison of VMS for dual screen.
If it doesn't work, submit a QAR!

Sorry for not revisiting this note. Keeping up with this conference is no
mean task.

It turns out that the reason it didn't work for me was because I was doing a
"$ SET DISPLAY/CREATE" in my LOGIN.COM, which is apparently a distinct no-no for
this environment. Thanks to Peter Wolfe for straightening me out on that.

All is well in Buehler-ville now.
