3056.0. "Athena widget set in VMS, or not?" by FRSTSC::ERLEMANN (Bedman strikes back) Tue Jul 10 1990 12:46

     Hi,

often asked 'bout the problem, but never answered clearly:

"Why is there no Athena widget set within the VMS DECwindows, but in
     Ultrix DECwindows?"

Have we problems to support these widget sets under VMS?

If there are customers who need this widget set, what can they do to
     provide themselves with that stuff?

Have they to contact MIT or are there any channels through DEC available?

I have many customers who complain about these facts; they are software
     developers and do not know exactly how they should decide for the future;
especially within the concerns of DECwindows, Motif, ...

What I'd like to get is an definite answer about these questions or
     perhaps an appropriate pointer to.

     Regards
     		Armin

	For the Nth time:

You are NOT going to get "OFFICIAL" answers in a notesfile. PLEASE
talk to DECwindows Product Management. (who's name escapes me
at the moment.. Try asking Jody STAR::LITTLE who the correct person
	is)

The Athena widgets may be on the Ultrix distribution, but I doubt they
    are "supported".

Much of the R3 client MIT distribution is available on a DECUS library
tape, I'm pretty sure the Athena widgets (converted to compile/run on
    VMS) are on that tape.

Abstract: This tape contains a large portion of the official X

The primary purpose of this re-mastering is to provide the VMS
community with access to some of the more useful tools and demos
as examples of X programming and for general use. The code has
been converted to run under VMS DECwindows (except for a few
clients which are for illustrative purposes only).

Included in the kit are the PostScript versions of the Xlib and
X Toolkit Intrinsics manuals from MIT, as well as the C sources
for Xlib, the Toolkit, and the Athena Widget set.

A sampling of the applications is as follows: MIT Clients -
