One of my users running on a VS3100 with 12 meg of memory is having
a problem with his mail screen locking up. This occurs when he sets
host from his VAXstation which is a member of an LAVc to a large
VAXcluster where his mail files reside.
The only thing that clears it is if he does a clear communications from
his decterm window. Some other people also with 3100's on this LAVc
have had the same problem from time to time.
Does anyone have any idea what may be the cause, or any ideas on where
or what to look at?

There is a problem in DECterm introduced in VMS V5.3 that can cause
a single DECterm window to hang until the clear communications option
is used. It's fixed in the final (i.e. post field test) version of
VMS V5.4.
