3018.0. "DECwindows Startup Problem" by VNABRW::ACKER () Fri Jun 29 1990 09:55
I've just upgraded a customers system (1*6000-410,1*3100-30 w/ VR160,1*
3100 w/ VR260) from VMS V5.2-1 to VMS V5.3-1. After rebooting the
whole cluster the 3100 with the VR160 display didn't come up with
decwindows. It stuck with the background of the login-screen at
the display and the mouse-cursor, but without the login-box. Logging
in via decnet or LAT works fine.
I then tried to start decwindows manualy, ... the same.
- DECW$SERVER_0 comes up and hangs in HIB state after a while.
- WSAx: comes up for just a few seconds (image accountings sayes
that it died with an access-violation).
- decw$server_0_errors.log shows no errors.
- autogen ran, decw$startup doesn't complain about any parameters.
I then looked at some other things in that system, as written in
some other entries of this conference, evey thing looks good.
eg: GBLSECTIONS 180 free, GBLPAGES 18k free, pool is not expanded,
UAF parameters of SYSTEM are looking good too (GBLPAGFIL 40k, BYTLIM
64k, PRCLM 20,...)
Does anyone out there have any idea ???
regards Heinz SSG/Vienna

| Make sure there are no system specific files in the nodes root. A
stale image is a common mode of failure after a upgrade.
