3014.0. "VT1000 Emulator tool available?" by PRMS07::JLYNCH (John Lynch, EIS District Consultant) Thu Jun 28 1990 21:57

I'm in search of a tool which must have been developed by now ...

Is there a s/w tool/utility that emulates the VT1000 functionality,
allowing a LAT X session to be established from a workstation to any
node running the client s/w? This will save time; rather than going to
another node, getting a proxy set-up, and all that is required for
DECwindows distributed applications to work - we could just run this
tool, and we'd have a login screen.

    Thanks in advance,
    	/john

Hello,

I'm testing now a GREAT tool - ELNDW. It gives you the ability
to use your current workstation as (COLOR/BW) DECWindow Terminal.
Basically it gives a DECWindow Terminal capability to a minimal hardware
VS3100 VS2000 MVII/GPX (and others) COLOR and BW. No need for disk or
large (VMS size) memory.

I'm trying to find more info/comments/feedback about this tool.

Thanks /Ofer

			ELNDW V1.1 Release Notes

1. This software is provided for DIGITAL INTERNAL USE ONLY. It is
provided AS IS, with no support implied. It includes software
which has not been field tested, though it is believed to function
   correctly.

2. This kit includes corrections to the V1.0 kit. Because of these
corrections, the V1.0 and V1.1 components are incompatible. After
installing V1.1, workstations will not be able to connect to the
boot server, until the workstations are rebooted.

The following problems have been corrected:

o ELNDW will now function correctly on clusters with a cluster alias
     defined

o The server account creation has been somewhat bullet-proofed

3. Support has been added for the VAXstation II/GPX. The system
images are built with color support. These should run on systems
   with a monochrome monitor.

4. The installation procedure now allows you to select a subset of
   the available system images.

5. ELNDW provides support for the monochrome video controller on the
VAXstation 2000 and VAXstation 3100. The following restrictions
   apply to this support:

o The VS2000 diagnostic bootstart ROM's must be at version V2.0 or
     latter.

o There is no support for any controller (such as the DHT32) in the
     video option slot.

6. The SYS$UPDATE:ELNDW_ADD_NODE.COM procedure will accept all required
inputs as arguments. If your boot server is running NETUPDATE, it
may be necessary to execute ELNDW_ADD_NODE after NETUPDATE completes.

7. When a user sets up the authorized user list on the VMS Session
Manager Customize Security menu, the node should be specified in
numeric (aa.nnnn) form, with no leading zeros. VAXELN does not
   translate node names.
