2983.0. "<3rd Party Xview Info. Needed>" by ZPOV03::HENRYCHEUNG (Henry A Cheung, Digital Singapore) Fri Jun 22 1990 13:57

    Hi,

Can anybody tell me the name(s) of third parties who support Xview which
    runs on DECstation ?

The reason I'm asking is that we have customer who wants to port their
application which were developed under Xview on Sun machines to our
platform. They prefer to use the commercial Xview rather than the one
in public domain because they concern about the support.

    Thanks in advance

    Henry

This has been discussed somewhere in here ...."Two Guys and
and a VAX" (TGV) of Santa Cruz, CA is your best bet.

TGV supports the VMS version, not the DECstation version. There is some other
fly-by-night software house that supposedly has a DECstation version available,
although I've been told it isn't exactly orderable yet. (I don't have
the company's name handy...)

It depends on what your customer uses as a definition of "commercial", but
I doubt they will get the kind of support and quality they are used to from
DEC. For example, will they be able to call Sun's telephone support with
questions?

    Thanks for your replies,

the concern is just who is going to help them when they have problems
(such as bugs) with XView on DECstations. What I mean with "commercial"
is that it is supported and not free from public domain.

    Thanks.
