I'm trying to find a way I can execute my VMS layered product (IPSE, a DECwindows interface to CDD) in the IVP that's run during or after VMSINSTAL. I gather its acceptable to require there to be a valid DECwindows display defined when VMSINSTAL is run, but I don't know how I can get my application to do anything once the IPSE$IVP.COM executes it. The products I've looked at all have some script/command language so the IVP can simply execute commands out of a file. This means they don't have to even prompt the person installing it to exit the application to finish the test. Unfortunately, IPSE has no script language, I don't want to rely on DTM being already installed, and I don't think we can ask the installer to interact with the application. Any suggestions will be much appreciated John Williams, IPSE developer

DECwrite had no script language either. I did a GKS style IVP where I display a one page document with instructions for the installer. The instructions basically say "If this document looks like the picture in the installation guide, everything is OK. Press Alt/Q to exit this IVP". In other words, the installer must manually exit DECwrite to continue on with the rest of the IVP. Pete | |||||

You could try asking them what they did. Trace |
