2954.0. "Where is XDPS$DPSLIBSHR.EXE on VMS T5.4-4GE" by FSLENG::JAIN () Tue Jun 19 1990 14:47

	I installed VAX VMS T5.4 - 4GE on a VAX 8250.

	The main purpose for the installation was to have the capability
of displaying PostScript files on a DECwindows terminal. I was under
the impression that the version of VMS that I installed included the
files to allow XDPS capability.

	I have tried to use the CDA viewer to display PostScript files
but I come up with the following error:

    $ set display/create/node=ibr1
    view/interface=decwindows a.ps/format=ps

    %DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image XDPS$DPSLIBSHR
    CLI-E-IMAGEFNF,image file not found [SYS0.SYSCOMMON.]
    					[SYSLIB]XDPS$DPSLIBSHR.EXE

	I have also tried this by bringing up the CDA viewer directly
but got the same error message. I was unable to locate the file in any
of the directories on my system disk. Did I just copy a save_set that
didn't contain the file or am I supposed to install something else
for XDPS capability.

	Thanks in advance for any help regarding XDPS$DPSLIBSHR.EXE

It sounds like you did something unusual during installation. That image
is present on my T5.4-4GE system and I didn't install anything "extra".

2954.2Which saveset is it in?FSLENG::JAINWed Jun 20 1990 08:335
    I installed VMS T5.4-4GE again. I got a copy from another node this
    time and I still can't find XDPS$DPSLIBSHR.EXE. Could you tell me
    which saveset it is supposed to be located in? Thanks.

2954.3XDPS$DPSLIBSHR.EXE is in saveset B...LNKUGL::BOWMANBob Bowman, CSC/CS SPACE TeamWed Jun 20 1990 09:405
It is part of the VMS Base kit, saveset VMS054.B. I see no way that a valid
installation would fail to leave this file in sys$library. How did you
do the installation? Was it an upgrade or a new installation? How did you
answer the various questions during the upgrade? Did you tailor anything off
after the installation?
2954.4I found the file. Thanks.FSLENG::JAINWed Jun 20 1990 16:097
    I upgraded from VMS 5.3 to VMS T5.4-4GE. I finally decided to install
    VMS T5.4-4GE. This provided the XDPS$DPSLIBSHR.EXE file. The only
    thing I can think of is that I had tailored a group of files "off"
    which included this file. Thanks for the reassurance that the file
    did exist.

2954.5CDA Viewer doesn't recognize PSFSLENG::JAINFri Jun 22 1990 00:009
    I still can't Display Postscript files using the CDA Viewer. The
    message says "Server Doesn't Recognize PostScript Extension".

    $ VIEW/INTERFACE=DECWINDOWS FILE.PS/FORMAT=PS

    The CDA Viewer seems to recognize DDIF and DIF files only.
    Any ideas on possible solutions?

	What are you displaying too? If it's a VT1000 then forget it.. It
	doesn't have the support in the server.. The system you display
	on much have a server with Postscript support in the server.

2954.7It used to work on VMS 5.3FSLENG::JAINFri Jun 22 1990 17:4816
    I have installed VMS T5.4-4GE on a VAX 8250 system (SCORPIO). The
    startup procedure doesn't allow ne to install DECwindows driver because
    it can't find any graphics devices on the system. I don't know if that
    is the problem. I used to run DECwindows applications on the system
    before I installed 5.4. The commands I used before were:

    	$ ON ERROR THEN CONTINUE
        $ SET NOVERIFY
    	$ SET DISPLAY/CREATE/NODE=VAXstation-3100-node
    	$ MCR system-node::SYS$SYSTEM:VUE$MASTER.EXE
    	$ EXIT

    This command file would reside on the SYSTEM and be called from the
    session manager on the VASstation 3100.

2954.8are both client & server 5.4?STAR::ORGOVANVince OrgovanSat Jun 23 1990 15:584
    To use Display PostScript on VMS systems, both the client and
    server must be running VMS 5.4. You've stated that the client
    8250 system is running T5.4-4GE which is fine, but what about
    the VAXstation-3100 server?
