2925.0. "Interesting problem on SPX w/VMS5.4-4GE" by AUNTB::STETSON (Rick Stetson @WKO) Wed Jun 13 1990 18:12

    I have done a fresh install of VMS X5.4-4GE on a VS3100/M38 with SPX
    option, VR297 in 1024 X 864 mode.

    I am running DECwindows.

    PROBLEM!

    I have this beautiful square in the middle of my screen that's
    approximately 1/8" square that won't go away! It makes no difference
    what combination of windows I have open this square is firmly planted
    over everything.

    Is this a new feature with the SPX or is DECwindows possibly sick?

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks!

    Rick

It wouldn't by any chance be the cursor, would it? (Move the mouse and see if
it moves!

2925.2application / uid mismatch?STAR::ORGOVANVince OrgovanWed Jun 13 1990 20:025
    I have seen symptoms like this with applications running with
    damaged .UID files. If this is a real window, try limiting your
    application autostart to figure out which application is giving
    you this bogus window. Then start double-checking that you got
    all of the latest files associated with that application.

    Hmmmm! I had that happen to me on my SPX running 5.4-GD. I even
    showed it to Bill (M). Looks like it's not just me. BTW the square
    acts like a override-redirect window and it always on top of everything
    but override-redirect windows. It also will pick up any background
    from any override-redirect window that occludes it. Loggin out and
    back into the session clears it.

RE.*

See note 2424.* (It's probably calendar via autostartup.)
2925.5The saga continuesSKRAM::STETSONRick Stetson @WKO DTN 367-4038Mon Jun 25 1990 17:0213
    The initial problem has been resolved. The answer was in 2424.* and
    was the result of AUTOSTART.

    Now.... Even when I try to start Calendar from the Session Manager
    Applications pulldown I get the same problem.

    I believe this is a QARed bug based on some notes in the VMS_FIELD_TEST
    conference. Is there a know resolution to this problem? If there is
    could you post it here?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Rick
