| I would suggest you enter a QAR. That way, you are guaranteed the
problem will get looked at. Entering problems in this conference
does not guarantee solution.

the problem with QAR that response there is far then being fast. We trying to
show a customer that the Scanproc machine is good enough for his application
rather using Unix machines (SUN for example).

| I can sympathize with you on your situation. Yes, the QAR system may
be slow, but it is the supported mechanism.

2905.4 | A QAR will be opened. | TMIS01::DORON | Doing my BEST !!! | Mon Jun 11 1990 17:00 | 10 |
| Jeff,
I am willing to open a QAR, but would it be possible to get some
hint/preliminary help by a mail/reply to this note? It is very urgent and
birocracy could mean loosing the business... Some time we have to be flexiable!
This what make us unique rather then the "Big Brother" (IBM). Tomorrow morning
I am going on site, but I'll get into my account when I am back home in the
evening. I hope for good news.

| Ok. I copied your test program and ran it on my Model 38 SPX. I am running
a new server that has a fix for some PIXMAP stuff. (Don't ask me, I just
break 'em) Your problem seems to be what SoftPC was seeing. Well, I ran
your test program and i get a window with a orange backround and a
little map-like thing in the upper left corner, near the quit button.
Anyways, it looks like V5.4 of VMS will fix this problem. I don't know
if the server folks are going to make a fix available for V5.3-1.

Since you R running VMS 5.4 and the problem is resolved (U should see a little
map in the upper left side corner near the QUIT button), I think QAR will be
unnecessary (right?). Is it a Field Test version of VMS 5.4 U R running?
Thanks a lot for your help,

| Well... It is a FT version of V5.4, but it has a later server given to
me by the DECwindows people to wring out.

Did this thing get qar'd? I have a customer with a 'potentially'
similar problem... Code is supposed to be in the mail...

| This problem has been fixed in a future release of VMS.

I have another sample program that illustrates this problem very
succinctly - it tries to put up a window with red, green and blue
bands. Here are the test results:
- Scanproc VMS 5.3-1 - black
- "" VMS 5.4 FT - black
- DECstation 3100, Ultrix 4.0 - colors
- NONScanproc VMS 5.3-1 - colors
What qar database is this thing in?
