2886.0. "Naive user needs font help" by KL2102::COBB (OSI, OSF, Oh my aching back!) Wed Jun 06 1990 11:06
I just upgraded my firefox to T5.4-4FGE, and now that
I've done this, the default fonts used by decw
applications are larger, but the width of text windows
is not correspondingly larger (for instance, in Notes,
the Edit window is only about 60 chars wide).
I assume this has something to do with basic conflict
between 75 and 100 dpi fonts, but I'll be damned to
figure out what has changed.
btw, DEC$FONT looks like:
"DECW$FONT" = "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_CURSOR32]" (DECW$SERVER0_TAB
LE)
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.CURSOR32]"
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_CURSOR16]"
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.CURSOR16]"
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_100DPI]"
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.100DPI]"
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.USER_75DPI]"
= "DECW$SYSCOMMON:[SYSFONT.DECW.75DPI]"
Sooo,
1) Some previous notes said to look in
decw$private_server_setup.com for help with
this. I vaguely remember seeing this before,
but the version I just installed doesn't talk
about fonts. How do I get back to the way I
was (fat, dumb, and happy)?
2) Is it a design flaw that applications don't
deal well with a change from 75 to 100 dpi
fonts? Seems to me that an object oriented
system such as DECWindows would be able to hide
this from an application.
Thanks for your help...
Danny
