2871.0. "Print Screen performance!" by TMIS01::DORON (Doing my BEST !!!) Tue Jun 05 1990 07:18

Hi,
Is there a way to increase the speed/amount of time processing the print screen
operation? I have a customer that is using it a lot and claims that it goes up
to 25 minutes!!! Is there a way to cut it down?

I've heard that there are bugs in the print screen code, which are known and
are being addressed. I'm not working on the problem, nor do I work directly
with the person that is, so I'm working on (reliable) heresay...

It is possible that you've run into a real bug with print screen. Rather than
just hope that DEC will come to your customer's rescue, why don't you work to
characterize the problem so that we can better understand what is wrong. "It's
broke" is just not descriptive enough.

What else is happening on the system, how much memory is there, what are the
paging statistics (is it faulting its brains out?), are there any processes
stuck in "strange" process states. What is the process which is consuming the
most CPU? In other words, what's the machine doing for those 25 minutes?

Does it always take that long? Is it data sensitive, is it sensitive to the
number of processes active, the number of windows, the complexity of the windows
etc? In other words, what does the customer do to make it take that long?

Characterizing the problem will help those who get the problem report solve
your problem....

Thanks Mike,

Do I have to understand that there is NO WAY improving performance?
