| Yeah, well...SET HOST/DTE is not so great with large quantities of data at
2400 baud in my humble opinion. It tends to overflow buffers. You could use
DECnet!
Or how about VMS_KERMIT?

2809.4 | Or how about tip | AIAG::BILLMERS | Meyer Billmers, AI Applications | Fri May 25 1990 09:22 | 11 |
| I have the same situation, and I use a combination of kermit and tip.
Isn't it interesting that all respondants have assumed Andy was going to run
VMS on this VS2000? I run VMS on my w/s at work and ULTRIX on the one at
home. There are several strong arguments to using ULTRIX on a small, standalong
workstation. I read note .0 twice; nowhere does it say "VMS".
By the bye, Andy, if you'll pardon the insertion of my $.02, doesn't sound
like much of a vacation!

2809.5 | Use altypeahd, hostsync,ttsync (on VMS) | SCAM::DIAL | | Fri May 25 1990 10:21 | 11 |
| Assuming Andy is using vms...
Set host/dte should work well for interactive type stuff, I'm using it
right now. Kermit (i think) works in that mode too, and will do fine
for file transfers.
The buffer overflow problems can be avoided by making sure that
"Altypeahd" is turned on (preferably on both machines). Also make sure
that "hostsync" and "ttsync" are enabled at both ends.

| Well, considering where I work (CSSE/VMS) VMS was a safe assumption :-)
I used SET H/DTE. It was crap because of flow control (or lack of). So
I did more gardening than working and I guess that the vacation got to
be 'real' anyhow.
Back at work,

2809.7 | It works! (In theory anyway) | SCAM::DIAL | | Wed Jun 06 1990 11:17 | 6 |
| Welcome back.
There seems to be some holes in the flow control, even with host sync
and ttsync turned on everywhere, if I run my serial port at 9600 I lose
characters. At 4800 there is still some loss, but it's not too bad.
