2795.0. "GVAX Code segement too big for I-cache." by RHETT::PICKETT () Mon May 21 1990 16:46

    A customer of mine is getting the following error in his
    decw$server_0_error.log:

    Warning: GVAX Code segment too big for I-cache.

    He has a 3520 24 plane system. Is this error important? Does
    anyone know what it means? I will cross post in PHIGS conference
    also.

  This is just letting you know that PEX is being initialized as an extension
to the server. It can be ignored. It is not a problem.

  This will also occur on 8-plane systems as well.

2795.2We should say what we meanDECWIN::FISHERPrune Juice: A Warrior's Drink!Mon May 21 1990 17:558
While I agree that it is OK (I have asked about it before, but I don't remember
the answer) I don't think "it lets you know it is loaded as an extension" is
right. First, if that is true, why not say "PEX Extension being loaded" instead
of "GVAX...". Second, I get the message even when I don't use PEX.

As long as I am in the mood, I'll submit a low-prio QAR.

  Right...sorry about that. I just use it as an indication of PEX. I think
that there is a QAR somewhere on this...who knows though...

2795.4Message explanationSTAR::BMATTHEWSTue May 22 1990 08:238
That message shouldn't be put in the error log. We wanted all the code on
the GVAX( cvax on the graphics board) to fit in it's I-stream cache for
performance reasons. We went over the limit slightly but we arranged the
code so that the frequently used code would always be in I-stream during the
normal operation of the GVAX. I believe only the initialization code is not
always resident in the I-stream cache.
