2753.0. "Organizer V2 available" by BROKE::BERRY (sleep is for parents that eat quiche) Sat May 12 1990 07:25
This is to announce the EasyNet release of Organizer V2.
You can find kit and documentation (yes, we even have documentation) in:
CREDIT::ORG$KIT:
There is also a notes file to discuss the tool on CREDIT::ORGANIZER. Your
comments, problems, wishes for future versions, etc... are most welcome.
If you are interested in the future of the tool, and would like to be on the
distribution list, send me mail at CREDIT::BERRY. Actually, I would greatly
appreciate a short piece of mail from any interested user.
Enjoy,
JP
NEW V2 FEATURES
---------------
Here are some of the main features added for v2:
- rollup operations: you can automatically have a parent entry take the
value of the sum (or minimum, or maximum) of its children.
- sorting: you can sort entries according to an attribute, while respecting
the hierarchy.
- dates: Organizer now supports dates as a "real" data type
- default values: you can define a default value for a column: any entry for
which you do not explicitely define a value will take that default value.
- more operations on the columns
- more direct manipulation
- a "print" option
ORGANIZER
---------
Organizer is a essentially a hierarchy editor. It is a DECwindows tool, and it
displays a hierarchical list of objects, in the SVN fashion. It permits the
usual hierarchy editing on the objects, like expand and contract. Each object
can have different attributes, and the attributes are presented in different
columns. It supports direct entries, the user can add new objects, or edit any
attribute on existing objects.
The typical use is as a todo list, or an issue list. It supports creating data
types, so the user can customoze it for his own use.
Organizer is a midnight project. It came from looking at display paradigms, and
work to define a GHOST (Graphical Hierachical Outline and Spreadsheet Tool)
widget. The tool illustrates the capabilities such a widget could have.
