2725.0. "More need for Captive accounts" by UTRUST::WEYN () Tue May 08 1990 10:38

I'm looking for a way to start a 'rolling demo' under Decwindows, but
without the need for a user to login into VMS.
I am thinking of an extra window in the corner of the Decwindows login
screen, which offers some demo-stuff.
Is there anyone who can tell me if this is possible, and how to setup
such a thing.

Maybe there are other solutions to have a rolling demo on a Vaxstation
which is secure enough (e.g. no access to DCL, like captive/restricted
accounts). I'm looking forward to your answer.

Thanks in advance,

Ben Weyn

    You can replace the Digital logo which appears before you log in. If
    you place this command:

    	$ DEFINE/SYS/EXEC DECW$LOGIN_BACKGROUND SYS$MANAGER:your-comm-file.COM

    in SYSTARTUP_V5.COM, then instead of displaying the Digital logo,
    DECwindows will execute your command file in the system account, with
    DECW$DISPLAY already setup. So your command file could be:

    	$ RUN DECW$EXAMPLES:ICO

    which would run the examples program, ICO. Or you could run a program
    of your choice. Be aware that it does run with full privileges, so it
    should be carefully designed so that users can't screw up your system.

    Indeed, that's working great...

    Thanks for your help.
