We have recently started experiencing a very wierd problem on our
in-house LAVC. We are running VMS V5.3-1 and DECwindows V2. Both are
SSB versions. THe LAVC consists of dual-host 3800's and 16 VS3100
satellites.
Just recently, someone logged into their workstation and went into the
customize menu on the session manager to change their pointer from
"right handed" to "left handed". When this is done the workstation
locks up. Moving the mouse moves the pointers but none of the mouse
buttons respond. We have to restart DECwindows. This happens on any
workstation from any account.
This used to work..
Anyone ever see this before?

Did you install Display PostScript BL5? This baselevel contains an
unrelated (to DPS) bug in the server which causes this problem. The
bug was never released in any official version of VMS (I don't think),
but happened to be in the snapshot we took for BL5 of DPS.
Best solution is to upgrade to VMS V5.4.

Yes - XDPS BL5 has been installed. THanks for the info. Unfortunately
we are not yet able to go to V5.4 Is there any workaround to this
problem with V5.3-1?

Well, V5.3-1 will have a good server, but it does not support DPS. V5.4 is the first for DPS. I just happened to pick an intermediate server for BL5 which had this bug in it. Burns | |||||
