2711.0. "DECwindows and OS/2 SE?" by YUPPY::SANDY () Fri May 04 1990 05:58

    I understand that DECwindows will be available on OS/2 SE. Can you
    explain how it will fit in with presentation Manager, in particular:

    - will a user have a choice of window managers at boot-time?
    - will there be a migration tool to move PM programs to DECwindows,
    given the different API's ?

    Thanks

>>> You think MUCH too logically!
>>>
>>> What is in the queue is ONLY an X-11 Server product, like our current
>>> DOS-based server (PC DECwindows), except that it will function from WITHIN
>>> a Presentation Manager environment. This means that X-11 applications will
>>> be invoked, and windows containing them will be manipulated, via normal PM
>>> means. The intent is to let PM users use REMOTE X-11 applications just as
>>> if they were local PM applications (or at least a best effort at providing
>>> that illusion.)
>>>
>>> There are some low-level discussions on this topic and some interest in
>>> the PCSG group...however, there is no funding, no head count, etc....
