2689.0. "Doc. on DECW$TERM_DEFAULT.DAT" by UTRTSC::HOFMAN () Tue May 01 1990 09:43

    Hello,

Just one (easy) question on DECwindows documentation...

Is there any documentation on the file DECW$TERM_DEFAULT.DAT ???

I had a look at some DECwindows manuals, but could not find any
    description of this file.

One of our customers has added some lines to this file, but wants to
know everything there is to specify...

Are these hidden features, or should I buy glasses and see the
    manuals again ?

    THANKS for any info,

    Berend.

There is no documentation on the format of the resource files nor is it
supported to hand-modify them (on VMS). There are many other notes in
this conference on the subject.

    Thanks but,

    > There is no documentation, and it is not supported.

The customer runs an third-party application wich modifies the file.
Lines written into it are for example :

    	DECW$TERM_noiconify TRUE
    	DECW$TERM_nolower
    	DECW$TERM_noresize

The customer is not able to modify these lines from within DECwindows.

If hand-modification is not supported from wich menu can he modify
    selection of these parameters ?

It looks like there are some hidden features. But, please correct me
    if I am wrong...

You're right, there are hidden features. The third party application shouldn't
be touching this stuff either.

If the customer wants to, he can go ahead and edit the files. However, DEC
may refuse to troubleshoot or fix any problems that he may turn up that aren't
reproducible using the vanilla files. Also, the customer's changes may stop
working or work differently come the next release of VMS.
