2686.0. "DECWINDOWS Disappears" by LEZAH::MCHIASSON () Mon Apr 30 1990 16:40

    Hi,
    I have a proble. I rebooted my system and it came up, however, I never
    get the DECWINDOWS logo with the word DIGITAL on it so that I can log
    int and out. I can set host to my system and see the decw$server_0 is
    running, but nothing happened. So I stopped the process, and restarted
    decwindows, it gave me a process and this time, the process
    decw$server_0 disapeared and I can't log into decwindows at all. Does
    anyone or has anyone seen this....?

2686.1How to get to first baseSTAR::VATNEPeter Vatne, VMS DevelopmentMon Apr 30 1990 17:307
My experience has been that when people can't even get as far as being
able to login, the system is usually short of GBLPAGES or GBLSECTIONS.
Check both of those SYSGEN parameters. It wouldn't hurt to run AUTOGEN.

Whenever the server process "disappears", it is also a good idea to look
at the contents of SYS$MANAGER:DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG. There may be
some more information there.
2686.2No error, GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS is OK.LEZAH::MCHIASSONTue May 01 1990 08:524
    I did check the decw$server_0_error.log, and it didn't tell me anything
    I saw as errors. GBLPAGES is 30000 and gblsections is 400.

Let me be more explicit: please post the contents of DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG.

One more thing: exactly which version of VMS and DECwindows are you running?
