2660.0. "problem writing DECW$TERMINAL_DEFAULTS.DAT " by N2ITIV::LEE (The stupid is always possible) Wed Apr 25 1990 17:19
I just upgraded my VSII/GPX from VMS 5.2 to VMS5.3-2 & DECwindows V2,
and I am now unable to save the DECterm customize settings. I had no
problems before the upgrade, but now when I try it, I get the
"Can't write file" message in a popup box.
The same thing happens if I try the "Save current settings as..."
option. In addition, no files ever show up in the file selection box,
no matter what I use as a filter.
Any ideas? The "Can't write file" message doesn't give me any idea
of what the specific problem might be. I have checked that
DECW$USER_DEFAULTS is defined, and that my protections are not screwed
up. Is there a way to get more informational messages?
Thanks,
-Andy

2660.1 | It could be a problem with DECW$USER_DEFAULTS | HANNAH::MESSENGER | Bob Messenger | Thu Apr 26 1990 15:31 | 7 |
| Re: .0
DECterm won't pick up your definition of DECW$USER_DEFAULTS unless it is
defined in the system logical name table, because DECterm is run in a
process that doesn't run your LOGIN.COM. Maybe that's the problem.

Well, sometime in the last few days, the problem has gone away,
through no action of mine (that I know of). I guess I'll just have
to write it off as one of the great unsolved mysteries of our time.
