I have a customer using H-P StarLAN 10 as their PC LAN. They have
purchased several VAXes recently and would like to run a
windows application on the VAX and have it display on their PCs on the
StarLAN network. Can this be done? How can it be done? This has been
a continuing saga that I would like to get cleared up soon.
Thanks
Chris Ideker

| 2650.1 | Transport from PC to VAX? | SPCTRM::GORCZYCA | Wed Apr 25 1990 17:37 | 15 | |
There are a number of PC products that provide x-server capabilities. The question to be answered is what is used as the transport from the PC to the VAX: TCP/IP, DECnet, other??? - currently we ship a DOS-based X-server that uses DECnet (but in the next release...) - LOCUS, a Digital CMP, currently is shipping a DOS-based X-server that uses TCP/IP. ...and, of course, there are others. What do they need for transport support? John

Does the LOCUS server function with our applications (DECterm,
Bookreader, etc.)? A customer I am working with is trying out a
TCP/IP transport server that generates a number of font and cursor
errors.
Thanks,
Barry

| 2650.3 | See note 2509 | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Thu Apr 26 1990 17:56 | 6 |
Font and cursor errors with other vendor's servers have nothing to do with the type of transport used. See note 2509 for a fonts.alias file that the the customer can install on the LOCUS server to workaround font problems. Note that the LOCUS server must support font alaises, and that a number of fonts from the MIT X11 R4 tape must already be installed.
