Can someone help wityh the following, When I make changes to the security in from the session manager and save the settings I get the following message " ERROR WRITING RESOURCE FILE What is the Resource file.....DECW$SM_GENERAL.DAT ??... What this means is that every time I log out and log back in I have to add entries to my security database....the only way to save my security (and other) settings is to PAUSE sessions. I am running DECwindows on VS2000 member satellite of a 6410. Thanks, Viren.

If the session manager is complaining "error writing resource file" when attempting to save the current settings, it means that it can't write the decw$sm*.dat files. Look for the usual kinds of things: file protection problems, no disk quota, etc.

I think the SM uses DECW$USER_DEFAULTS as the location to write the mumble.DAT file. Make sure it is defined. It should actually point at SYS$LOGIN. Make sure SYS$LOGIN is writable (it would be pretty odd if it were not!) Burns

If the account is newly created, the login directory or device might be incorrect. It's an easy mistake to make (I know!!). Barry |
