2619.0. "Icon Box dying..." by ANRAPE::SIMON (I.S. - the wife of DIGITAL) Tue Apr 17 1990 13:29

Hi,

I have a VS3100 running V5.4-4FK as a satellite of a boot node 11/785 running
V5.3.

When using DECwrite and doing a "QUIT" the Icon Box disappeared, along with all
the top lines of the others windows that were open at the time.

I had a look in the DECW$SM.LOG for the user, but it was empty. I restarted
DECwindows with @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTUP RESTART and the DECW$SM.LOG then had
the following error message...

XIO: fatal IO error 65535 on X server "FOSSEY::0.0"
after 804 requests (804 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
Session Error: -NONAME-E-NOMSG, Message number 02DBA002

Apparently this error is really

		 %DECW-E-CNXABORT, connection aborted

Anyone think of a reason/solution/answer (please!!!! -this is very irritating)

Thanks in advance,

Simon.

The icon box and window titles are managed by the window manager
process, not the session manager. We need more information to
try to figure this out. Can you try running the window manager
interactively to find out what error it is reporting? The
    process to do that is:

        1. Get into a privileged account on the workstation,
preferably set hosted from someplace else.

    	2. Stop the window manager process. It will have a name
    	of the form DECW$WM_n.

        3. Run the window manager via "mcr decw$winmgr".

        4. Use DECwrite/Quit to cause the problem.

    Please post the results.
