The V5.3 DECwindows SSA states : Decwindows applications can be accessed across the network by workstations that have provided implementations that are consistent with MIT X11 R3 speci- fications. Similarly, DECwindows workstations can access remote X applications that follow the same guidelines. Does this also mean that when TCP/IP is used as the transport protocol (with UCX V1.2) that other UNIX X-windows can be accessed and vice versa ? Regards, Pim.

2617.1 | DECwindows works fine with TCP/IP | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Tue Apr 17 1990 14:22 | 7 |
You are correct. DECwindows works equally well over DECnet and TCP/IP (with UCX V1.2). The only functional difference is that you cannot specify the user name in the Customize Security menu when using TCP/IP as the transport. Note that when using DECwindows applications with a UNIX X-server, the server must have the MIT X11 R4 fonts installed, and also the fonts.alias file from note 2509. Note 2509 tells which fonts from MIT X11 R4 must be installed. |
