I have an old VAXstation II/GPX with a VR160 monitor. The only cable I could find for the monitor is a BC19S. When I use it, I get no red color at all. I found an old BC18Z which physically looks identical to the BC19, but it does get me red. I know it's not a bad BC19 'cause I found two other brand new ones, and none of them provide red. Is there a significant electrical difference between the BC18 and BC19, and is there any "easy" way to make the BC19 work ?? Thanks Arlan

The BC19S is for the VS2000 with a GPX and the VS3100 with a GPX. The BC18Z is for the VSII/GPX. They are NOT interchangeable.

re: .1 Geee... not to ding on engineering, but if the cables are NOT interchangeable, they shouldn't have made them look so identical and should have keyed them. After I ran into this problem, I started asking around locally and found at least two people who knew of customers with the same problem. They've been chasing bad graphics boards, bad tubes, etc trying to figure out where the red went. Apparently, cables get lost, stolen (ie: borrowed), misplaced, etc. When you find a cable that looks identical to the one you're missing, you use it. The lack of some uniqueness is poor "human" engineering. Thanks for the info.... Arlan

The cables actually don't look the same. One has longer and thicker leads. |
